The bosque is a gallery forest running on both sides of the river. The Middle Rio Grande bosque represents the largest Cottonwood riparian forest in the southwestern United States. Riparian zones are the major providers of habitat for wildlife and endangered species in the Southwest. The Middle Valley section of the bosque exists in both urban and rural landscapes and provides a unique look into human influence on this forest environment.
